The college athlete-agent relationship a sticky situation for all
Not long ago, we mentioned that Arizona State ought to get former basketball player Stevin “Hedake” Smith out of its basketball record books much like Southern California has done with Reggie Bush, because of Smith’s involvement in a game-fixing scheme.
A former teammate of Hedake’s e-mailed to say that, rather than pick on Smith, maybe we should write about how major college programs are making a fortune off of athletes like him and maybe it’s time to give them something.
It’s an issue that is likely to come to the forefront again thanks to George Dohrmann’s article in Sports Illustrated that hits newsstands Monday, in which former agent Josh Luchs describes how he and other agents operate – paying players so the players will sign with them when they leave college for the NFL.
