The value of scoring defense in the SEC

Of the 13 undefeated teams left in college football this season, Auburn ranks 11th in scoring defense. The Tigers are only better than No. 56 Oklahoma (22.8 points) and No. 87 Oklahoma State (29.2 points). Five teams have .500 or worse records yet are ahead of Auburn in scoring defense: Penn State (3-3), Cincinnati (2-3), Georgia (2-4), Kent State (2-3) and Virginia (2-3).
Auburn has been good against the run, ranking 14th in rush defense (second in the SEC) at 95.7 yards per game. Pass defense is another story, where the Tigers are 91st at 239.2 yards. They’re about to face an Arkansas offense that has the complete opposite of Auburn’s strengths and weaknesses. The Razorbacks are 96th in rushing and third in passing.
