Back home in Decatur, Ala., for the weekend since Ole Miss wasn’t playing, the sophomore Rebel linebacker watched his Austin Black Bears beat highly regarded Gadsden City 33-30 on homecoming.

Dutton wasn’t surprised Shackelford was there. Or that he talked to all the kids who came up to him. Or that he pitched in as a waterboy on the sideline.

Just D.T. being D.T., essentially.

“He’s contagious,” Dutton said. “Where he is, people want to be around him.”
