WSJ: Six Top Teams, Six Different Conferences

Six Top Teams, Six Different Conferences

It’s odd enough that there’s only one college-football team from the almighty Southeastern Conference that’s ranked among the top six in the country. Add that to the fact that there’s one from the Mountain West Conference and another from the Western Athletic Conference, and this year’s cream of the crop looks a bit odd.

In fact, it’s the first time in 17 years that the top six teams in the AP top-25 poll have come from different conferences for four straight weeks. For some perspective, the top six teams haven’t come from six different conferences in any week in almost three years and, in the past decade, it only happened about once every 28 weeks.
