OXFORD — When voting begins today in the final stage of choosing a mascot to represent the University of Mississippi’s athletic teams, freshman Zack White likely will vote for the Rebel Land Shark.
A nod to the nickname given the football team’s recent stout defensive lines, its competition is a black bear and a character named Hotty Toddy, a play off the name of the school’s cheer.
“It’ll probably be the coolest thing,” White, of San Angelo, Texas, said of his choice.
