Hearing could be next week for circuit clerks’ challenge
A hearing could be held next week in a legal challenge seeking to stop next month’s write-in election to replace the late Circuit Judge Robert Evans in the four-county district.
Circuit clerks in three counties and an election commissioner in a fourth, citing concerns about mass voter confusion, recently filed the complaint.
“All we are doing by filing this complaint is standing up for all the voters and their rights in this district,” the officials say in a statement. “We believe they deserve better than this idea of a write-in election.”
Simpson County Circuit Clerk Cindy Jensen, Jasper County Circuit Clerk Billy Rayner, Smith County Circuit Clerk Anthony Grayson, and Covington County Election Commissioner Richard Aultman filed the lawsuit seeking to prevent the scheduled election next month.
