Over the hill? No, Manning’s at the peak

Personally, I’m not totally sure about forever, but if anybody could push age 40 and beyond, if anybody could rewrite the record book while doing some serious editing to the quarterback actuarial tables, it’s the freakish — and I mean that in a good way — 34-year-old Manning.

Here’s what history tells us:

Quarterbacks, by and large, start to diminish around age 34 or 35. It’s not a hard and fast rule — look at Brett Favre, a grandfather still getting it done while carrying an AARP card — but when you go through the years and look at the statistics for the greatest players at that position, 34 seems to be the age when the physical skills start to diminish and injuries become a factor.
