SEC officials experienced offseason of “soul searching”

Some evaluation changes have been made. Challenges were issued, from SEC Commissioner Mike Slive to officials and from officials to one another.
“I will tell you the offseason was a lot of soul-searching for all officials,” SEC referee Steve Shaw said Sunday evening before speaking at the Over the Mountain Touchdown Club. “There’s always been this feeling that the SEC, from an officiating standpoint, was always one of the top conferences. We took a hit or two last year on that, and we’re working to try and rebuild that and reinstate that.”
Shaw, a Birmingham resident and president of the SEC Football Officials Association, said Slive expressed “disappointment of what we accomplished last year” and set expectations for 2010.
