Rebels’ defense knocked down to earth by early season mistakes

Though interpretations from stats through two weeks can be dangerous, consider where the Rebels rank in the Southeastern Conference: last in points allowed per game (31) and next to last in yards allowed per game (333.5).

The Rebels saw a 21-point halftime lead against Jacksonville State disappear when the Gamecocks scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns. JSU won in double overtime, 49-48. A week later at Tulane, the Green Wave found its offensive rhythm in the second half, too, before the Rebels rose up with some big plays late to quash the comeback and win 27-13.
