Winners and Losers from college football’s opening night

Winners and Losers from college football’s opening night

Winners:

South Carolina’s offense. It showed great potential in a 41-13 rout of Southern Miss by gaining 447 yards. Much-maligned quarterback Stephen Garcia and true freshman running back Marcus Lattimore each ran for two scores. Next up is a visit from Georgia. Win that and talk could begin about the Gamecocks making a legit run at their first SEC East title.

Miami QB Jacory Harris. Playing just the first half, Harris threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-0 rout of Florida A&M, the Hurricanes’ first shutout since 2006.
