Dickie Scruggs’s crimes still haunt the legal proceedings in a key Katrina insurance case, the whistle-blower lawsuit filed against State Farm. But that’s a whole involved story in itself.
His son has completed his prison sentence, but Dickie Scruggs is still behind bars. In fact, State Farm recently submitted him to pretrial testimony under oath, called a deposition. Scruggs refused to answer, invoking his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination. This is also the height of irony, considering Scruggs was so critical of a State Farm adjuster who did the same thing when his legal team questioned her a few years earlier.
