Though known to many in the region, Jerrod Johnson’s coming-out party on a national stage did not occur until the final game of last year’s regular season. Even in defeat, Johnson went toe-to-toe with Heisman favorite Colt McCoy, matching wits with the fourth-year starting quarterback late into the fourth quarter. When McCoy and Johnson met at midfield following the conclusion of the game, the proverbial torch was passed: McCoy breathed a sigh of relief, knowing his national title hopes lived for another day, while Johnson began to realize his potential — he can play with any quarterback in the country.
