The Big Ten is now a 12-school league, and the Cornhusker athletic director — the embodiment of Nebraska football as its legendary coach — has been invited to take part in all conference meetings.

May 1, 2009: Penn State coach Joe Paterno, complaining that the Big Ten “goes into hiding” after the regular season, says he wants to add a 12th team to create a conference title game. How do league officials respond? “They’re polite,” Paterno tells ESPN.com, “but they snicker.”
