Nunnelee, Palazzo lead in Mississippi primary campaign cash
State lawmakers running for different congressional seats in Mississippi have collected more campaign cash than their opponents in next Tuesday’s Republican primaries.
But in both cases, the state office holders have less money than the Democratic U.S. House members they eventually hope to defeat.
State Sen. Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo faces two other candidates in north Mississippi’s 1st District Republican primary, and state Rep. Steve Palazzo of Biloxi faces one in the south’s 4th District.
The latest finance reports show Nunnelee has collected $642,968. That compares to $127,251 for former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross and $87,093 for former Fox News analyst Angela McGlowan of Oxford.
If none of the three wins a majority Tuesday, a runoff will be June 22.
The eventual Republican nominee will face Democratic incumbent Travis Childers of Booneville and seven other candidates in the Nov. 2 general election.
