SEC baseball tournament features rules to speed up play

The league will employ new clock rules designed to speed up play in the double-elimination, eight-team tournament that begins Wednesday at Regions Park and is led by top-seeded Florida and No. 2 Auburn.
“We document every pitcher, every in-between innings for not only our team but the other team,” Pawlowski said. “I told our team early in the season if we find a way to get in the SEC tournament, I don’t want it to be a shock to their system that, ‘Oh my gosh, I have to throw a pitch within 20 seconds.”‘
Pitchers will have that 20-second limit when nobody’s on base and teams will be given 108 seconds to take the field every half-inning. Teams violating the rules will have a ball called against them on the mound. If the batter isn’t ready in the box with 5 seconds left, he gets a strike added to the count.
