Nunnelee: America is on the wrong path
The candidate said he’s extremely concerned about what he described as a significant increase in the size of government and the amount of government spending over the past few months.
“Over the last 16 months I’ve seen the United States Congress enact one policy after another that, they may have had different names, but they all end up having the same effect. We’ve had higher taxes, more borrowing, less individual freedom and more governmental control. I think at the root of the problem is unrestrained spending and borrowing from successive generations at a rate this nation’s never known,” he said.
Nunnelee believes his combination of private business experience as an employee of a major company and as a business owner and experience as a state senator and chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee have uniquely equipped him to represent Northeast Mississippi in the U.S. Congress.
A government’s primary responsibility is to provide for the safety and security of its citizens, said Nunnelee. He said if elected he will fight to reduce the size of government and the amount of spending.
Nunnelee did not shy away from the growing tea party movement. He said he believes most of those who identify with the movement share his beliefs about smaller, less intrusive government.
“I personally believe the most effective function of the tea party is to hold the Republican party true to its conservative principles,” he said.
