New Albany Man Sentenced in Voter Fraud Case

Jackson, MS– A New Albany man has been sentenced for conspiracy to
commit voter fraud in Benton County, announced Attorney General Jim Hood
today.
Larry L. “Tip” Massey, age, 45, of 504 Hopper Street in New Albany
appeared before Judge Henry Lackey in Benton County Circuit Court today.
He was sentenced to five years, three years suspended, two to serve and
two years supervised probation. Massey pled guilty to the charges in
October 2008 but had been awaiting sentencing in exchange for testifying
against other defendants in the case.
“The defendant had agreed to truthfully testify against his
co-defendants in this case, but then failed to do so,” said Attorney
General Hood.
Massey was ordered to report to the Benton County jail Monday morning,
April 26th, to await transfer into the custody of the Mississippi
Department of Corrections.
So far in the case, two defendants were convicted by a jury and
sentenced in the case, seven others have pled guilty but are awaiting
sentencing, while seven others are pending due process.
As with all cases, all defendants are presumed innocent until proven
guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
