Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree running for Gov.
HATTIESBURG — Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree told the Hattiesburg American on Tuesday he is putting together a team to work out campaign strategies and fundraising opportunities to run for governor.
“I talked to the (city) council today, I talked to my family Saturday evening at my house, and we’ve talked to our church family,” DuPree said Tuesday night. “I’ve also talked to some of my closest friends … informing them our intentions are to run for governor in next year’s election.”
There are a lot of people he needs to talk to between now and the qualifying deadline, DuPree said.
DuPree said he’s fully prepared to take on the juggling act of preparing for his gubernatorial race and serving his third term as mayor of the Hub City.
