State auditor probes Madison Co. engineering deals
The state auditor’s office is examining Madison County’s engineering contracts, a move that county officials say they welcome to clear up a continuing controversy over fees.
“I have done absolutely nothing wrong, and I embrace this examination by the state auditor,” County Engineer Rudy Warnock said this week.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering said Wednesday that “Madison County issues in the news” prompted him to send an audit response team to gather information from county records. The examination is not an investigation by his office, Pickering said.
“We have a team actively looking into issues up there,” he said. “There are issues we want to clarify, and the quickest way is the action we’ve taken. Some questions need to be addressed further.”
