House and Senate lawmakers voted Friday to send to the governor massive bond bills packed with public works projects but stripped of any funds for planning the move of two large state agencies from Hinds County to Rankin County.
“We were afraid some members of the city of Jackson delegation would kill a very, very important bill over that,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Dean Kirby, R-Pearl.
With that, Hinds County lawmakers claimed victory in a turf war over new headquarters for the State Tax Commission and the Department of Public Safety, at least for now.
“It’s as if they want to develop a second capital,” said Sen. John Horhn, D-Jackson.
