Duke banks on passion, tradition
HOUSTON Arkansas-Pine Bluff was awful, California average and Purdue ailing.
Such is the prevailing perception of Duke’s journey in this NCAA tournament.
No amount of opponent praising by Mike Krzyzewski has been able to convince most folks otherwise. Goodness knows the Duke coach has gone to great lengths, too. Heck, he didn’t stop far short of proclaiming Cal and Purdue national title contenders.
But to paraphrase famed Texas philosopher H. Ross Perot, the Blue Devils (32-5) now are where the rubber meets the road to Indianapolis.
