WLOX – Open sealed Hood-State Farm settlement
Raycom News Network, which includes WLOX, had reported that questions arose about the settlement. Questions like did Hood stop the criminal investigation against State Farm because now convicted lawyer Dickie Scruggs, his largest campaign contributor, would then get a huge settlement himself on suits he had against the company. Hood said no.
This is Sunshine Week in Mississippi, a time when media outlets here and across the country celebrate freedom of open government and freedom of information. A federal judge this week said New Media or Y’all Politics along with WLOX, WLBT AND WDAM of Raycom Media have the right to intervene and ask the court to open that closed deal between Hood and State Farm.
One more example of how it almost always takes federal courts to allow the real sunshine of openness in our state government.
