March Madness doesn’t translate to gridiron

It happens every year. An exciting first weekend of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament generates “what-if” discussion among proponents of a big-school football playoff.
Sorry folks. It’s apples and oranges.
At the absolute most, an NCAA football tournament would have 16 teams. That means your biggest first-day shocker has a 16 seed beating a No. 1. According to the final AP poll from the 2009 season, that translates into Wisconsin beating Alabama. Big whoop.
