Senator: “Americans deserve better than the half-trillion dollar Medicare
cuts, the federally subsidized abortion, and the higher premiums and taxes
we will see under this law.”
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., released the following
statement tonight after House Democrats approved the Senate Democrats’
health care bill by a vote of 219-212:
“Congressional Democrats under Nancy Pelosi’s leadership apparently believe
they know better than the overwhelming majority of Americans. If allowed to
stand, this bill will put us on a path to European-style socialized
medicine, risking bankruptcy for our country. Over the past year, I have
strenuously fought this government takeover. Americans deserve better than
the half-trillion dollar Medicare cuts, the federally subsidized abortion,
and the higher premiums and taxes we will see under this law. My colleagues
and I proposed sensible alternatives that were supported by the public and
could have worked without breaking the bank.
“This battle now moves to the Courts and to the political arena. Repeal of
this destructive bill will be the major issue in this year’s election.”
