Senators seeking details of BCS finances

Senators seeking details of BCS finances

Two senators from Western states are again asking the Bowl Championship Series for answers — and this time they want to know about money.

A letter, signed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, and Sen. Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat, was posted Wednesday on Hatch’s Web site. It asks for details about how the BCS calculates which conferences get automatic bowl bids, how money will be divvied up under a new TV deal and what sort of legal status the organization has.

“Legal and antitrust concerns aside, I think it’s clear that the BCS is fundamentally unfair and harmful to schools, students, college football fans and consumers throughout the country,” Hatch said in a news release. “At the very least, I think the architects of the BCS should provide the public with more information to dispel the notion that the system is explicitly designed to favor certain teams while disfavoring others
