Auburn closes Beard-Eaves with big win over Mississippi State
AUBURN — Auburn ended a 42-year run at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum with a victory, topping Mississippi State 89-80 Wednesday night.
Three seniors had big games for the Tigers. Tay Waller had 22, Brendon Knox had 21 and DeWayne Reed scored 19 for the Tigers. MSU’s Dee Bost, who torched Auburn in the first meeting in Starkville, was scoreless at halftime, but scored a team-high 25 in the second half.
Auburn (15-15, 6-9 SEC) led for most of the game until the Bulldogs tied it up 65 with about nine minutes left. But the Tigers answered back, building a 10-point lead with 3:29 to play and holding on through MSU’s last push.
