Jerry Mitchell takes hiatus to write book, blog about Civil Rights
Clarion-Ledger investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell has confronted angry white supremacists and received death threats in his coverage of unsolved crimes from the civil rights era.
He’s been unfazed by those events, yet he found writing a blog to be intimidating.
Until now.
It “ranked right up there with rattlesnakes and tarantulas as far as I was concerned,” said Mitchell, who began working for The Clarion-Ledger in 1986.
On Feb. 1, Mitchell launched a blog (blogs.clarionledger.com/jmi tchell) – the same day he began a three-month break from The Clarion-Ledger to work on a book about his experiences while investigating unpunished killings from the civil rights era.
Mitchell’s upcoming book is titled Race Against Time. His deadline on the 400-page book for the publisher Twelve is a year from now.
