Ex-Melton bodyguards to pay $20K
The city of Jackson likely will move quickly to settle a lawsuit filed by the owner of a duplex police officers damaged in 2006 now that the men have agreed to make partial restitution.
Ex-Jackson police officers Michael Recio and Marcus Wright agreed Wednesday in federal court to pay Jennifer Sutton $15,000, split equally, for damage caused to her Ridgeway Street duplex during a police-style raid. Recio and Wright were on the raid with – and at the request of – then-Mayor Frank Melton.
Wright and Recio, who both served as bodyguards for Melton, pleaded guilty to misdemeanors in September. Melton died shortly before his retrial on federal civil rights charges as a result of the raid.
