Dooley marks a new model for UT football

Hopefully, the hiring of Derek Dooley will be the beginning of, not a new era, but a new model for Tennessee football. The old model is broken and has been for some time.

It’s great that the Vols won a national championship 12 years ago but since then fans have walked with their heads down more often than up. Priorities are
misplaced.

Rather than doing anything to win, it’s time for UT to start living up to its desire to be a great university. Other schools do it. Duke University can be proud whether the basketball team is national champion or not.

Need a Southern public school as a model? Georgia Tech fans never have anything to be ashamed of. Whether their football/basketball teams are ranked or not, the reputation of the university stays unchallenged, and alumni can hold their heads high.
