Miss. lawmakers launch session amid tight budget
Mississippi lawmakers have started their 2010 session, and they say their biggest challenge will be stretching a tight state budget.
The House and Senate convened at noon Tuesday at the Capitol.
Mississippi’s tax collections have fallen short of expectations for the past 16 months, and Gov. Haley Barbour is asking lawmakers to be cautious with their spending. Most state services are losing money, from education to public health.
