In the NBA, 3 Is Cheaper Than 2

Believe it or not, there’s a spectacle going on in the NBA right now that doesn’t involve players allegedly pulling guns in the locker room. This one centers on the rate at which the league’s players are pulling up 25 feet from the basket and letting the ball fly.
NBA teams are on pace this season to make about 511 three-point shots apiece—about 50 more, on average, than they did just five years ago. Last season, while the number of two-point shots was down about 5% from a decade ago, NBA teams set a record by averaging 545 three-point shots, a 37% jump over the same span.
