Potential hospital in Desoto face hearing

The battle for a hospital in Olive Branch is not over.

On Monday, Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven and Holly Springs-based Alliance Healthcare each requested a hearing on Methodist Healthcare’s Certificate of Need application for a 100-bed hospital in the city.

No hearing had been scheduled late Monday as both requests came in the afternoon, but the state health department typically holds such hearings 60 days after a request is made.

“At a minimum, the project has been delayed six months,” State Sen. Merle Flowers said about Methodist’s estimated effect of the hearing requests from Baptist and Alliance.
