FERC, Entergy insist audits are ‘routine’
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood on Tuesday said an ongoing audit of Entergy by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission indicates the agency is taking a “strong look” at the company’s practices.
But a FERC spokeswoman and Entergy representatives insist that two separate audits being conducted by FERC are routine.
Hood in a November 24 news release accused Entergy of “thumbing its nose at the State of Mississippi” as the state has tried to examine “questionable charges that have resulted in over charges to our ratepayers.”
Entergy spokesman Larry Daspit said Tuesday that the company is cooperating with the FERC audit that he called routine.
FERC is actually conducting two audits, one examining Entergy Services operational issues since April 2006 and one concerning Entergy Corp. financial issues between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2008. FERC spokeswoman Barbara Connors said Tuesday both audits are routine, and “not prompted by anything else.” Connors said “FERC staff regularly schedules operational and financial audits of regulated utilities and the letter to Entergy outlines what the audit staff will be doing.”
FERC records show other audits in October and November of companies such as Texas Energy Future Holdings Limited Partnership, US Power Generating, and natural gas and petroleum companies.
