Mullen, Dogs make ‘Golden’ statement with Egg Bowl romp

STARKVILLE — Dan Mullen had undoubtedly hoped to make a statement Saturday in his first Egg Bowl as Mississippi State’s coach. That statement made with State’s 41-27 win over Ole Miss here, he made sure the message wasn’t lost.
Presented with a microphone and told to talk to the fans after the game, he made one point clear: “This is one program in this state that’s definitely on the rise and heading in the right direction.” Fans roared.
The spark for those words came earlier in the week, when Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said his program was on the rise in the wake of some negative recruiting.
