LTE – Project will ruin Pascagoula River
Twenty-five million dollars hs been allocated to study the logistics and engineering of the Richton salt dome project by the Department of Energy. The completed project is estimated to cost from $2.5 billion to $5 billion.
Apparently, the gremlins in Washington, D.C., are determined to destroy the Pascagoula River by drawing 50 million gallons of water a day from it for years to flush the domes out so oil can be pumped in. In drought times what will this do to the river? The DOE won’t be satisfied until the Pascagoula is a muddy ditch.
The brine from the dome flushing will have to be pumped 96 miles to the Gulf of Mexico – an environmental disaster waiting to happen. A leak of brine on land will poison the land and water forever, not to mention what can happen when the super salty effluent is discharged into the Gulf.
Those billions of dollars spent in this ill conceived project could be better spent on development of other energy sources. There are some things too precious to lose, and the Pascagoula River and its wildlife refuge is one of them. Your apathy is going to let this happen.
