Gov. touts $300M manufacturing plant for Delta
The Mississippi Delta soon could be home to a “very sophisticated, advanced manufacturing” operation that would create 500 jobs in five years, Gov. Haley Barbour said Wednesday.
Barbour said he was not ready to divulge the name of the company that plans to build a $300 million factory in one of the state’s poorest regions. He also wouldn’t say what the factory will produce or where exactly it will be located.
But it is expected to be a German company that manufactures steel pipes and will be located in Tunica County.
Barbour made the announcement at the Mississippi Economic Council’s annual Hobnob event in Jackson and spoke to reporters afterward.
Barbour said he expects to call lawmakers into a special session late next week to consider incentives for the company.
Barbour would not give a specific dollar amount on the incentive he’ll seek, but he said it will not exceed 10 percent of the company’s investment.
