Redistricting could be challenge for DeSoto

While substantial population growth has all but ensured DeSoto County will get additional representation at the Capitol, it does not mean legislators will have it easy during the redistricting process.

Rep. Wanda Jennings, R-Southaven, said Thursday that deciding how to divvy up districts in Republican-heavy DeSoto County likely would be a challenge in the Democrat-controlled House.

“We have to worry about DeSoto County and nobody else because I can assure you no one else will be worried about DeSoto County,” she said about herself and fellow representatives from the county.

Jennings said that when state legislators convene in Jackson in January, redistricting would be at the top of many of their lists.
