Mullen focuses on triple option
Half a decade ago, when Dan Mullen was an assistant at Utah and Paul Johnson (right) was just beginning to turn heads as the head coach at Navy, the two men found themselves on the phone.
Mullen wanted to know how to incorporate parts of Johnson’s option offense into his and Urban Meyer’s still-developing spread. Johnson pleaded ignorance on how best to incorporate it into the shotgun, but gladly offered the intricacies that he thought made his triple option a success.
