Voter ID unlikely to make ’10 Miss. ballot
Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said today his office has verified almost 19,000 signatures supporting an election on whether voters should be required to show identification at the polls.
That’s not nearly enough to meet an Oct. 7th deadline to put the issue on the 2010 ballot. Around 90,000 signatures are needed.
Brad White, chairman of the state Republican Party, said his group has collected about 40,000 signatures. He said it’s possible that enough signatures could be collected by the October deadline, “but I’m not betting the farm on it.”
