Raymond Berry has spent more than a half-century studying the NFL as a Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver, a coach and an astute observer. His diligence has revealed the crucial characteristic that stamps the uncommon quarterback who rises to the level of John Unitas and Peyton Manning.
“Coaches tend to overanalyze quarterbacks,” Berry said. “Weeb Ewbank, my first head coach, told me a long time ago that all quarterbacks throw differently; the thing that matters is the really good ones hit their target.
“Peyton and John hit their target.”
