Hall decries MDOT dinner

A transportation commissioner has admitted to having dinner with Madison County officials and discussing the Reunion interchange after Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall filed a complaint with the Mississippi Ethics Commission last month.

Hall filed the complaint following what he called a “secret meeting” between District 2 Supervisor Tim Johnson, County Engineer Rudy Warnock and the other two transportation commissioners.

Hall claims Northern District Transportation Commissioner Bill Minor, Southern District Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown and MDOT Executive Director Larry L. “Butch” Brown violated open meetings laws when they had dinner with Johnson, Warnock and attorney Ed Brunini, Jr. at Nick’s Restaurant in Jackson on the evening of Aug. 10.

Minor responded to Hall’s complaint in a letter to the Ethics Commission dated Sept. 10 in which he claims multiple times that “there was no meeting” and it was only a dinner.

However, he does admit that the group discussed funding for the Reunion interchange, something experts say is a violation of the state’s open meetings law
