Looks as if Tide’s offense may be less predictable in 2009

TUSCALOOSA — There wasn’t much mystery to the 2008 Alabama offense. On third-and-1, the Crimson Tide almost always pounded the ball. With Andre Smith at left tackle, the Tide practically could tell a defense what was coming and dare it to make a stop.
It appears the 2009 Alabama offense will be less predictable. In its 34-24 season-opening victory Saturday over seventh-ranked Virginia Tech, the Tide showed some intrigue and diversity.

On the first third-and-1 play of the game, running back Mark Ingram took a handoff and was stopped up the middle for no gain.
