Hernando girl enjoys stint as U.S. Senate page

It was a summertime encounter during which Jodie Chavez met Thurgood Marshall’s grandson.

“I (also) got to become good friends with Caroline Kennedy’s son,” Chavez added. “The owner of Hyatt Hotels — her daughter was there — and they were all so nice.”

The Hernando High School senior didn’t do all of this hanging around DeSoto County. She was getting things done in another “DC” — Washington, D.C.

Senate pages, according to a release, are primarily responsible for delivering correspondence and legislative material to lawmakers with the U.S. Capitol complex. In addition, pages help prepare the Senate chamber for sessions and serve all 100 senators while the Senate is deliberating.
