TV pact puts SEC in homes, recruits’ minds coast to coast

If you don’t believe timing is almost everything, then talk to Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive.

In the last three years, the SEC has been the nation’s hottest college athletic conference, mainly because of success in the four most visible sports — football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
Since 2006, those sports have won a combined eight national championships, including three straight in football, as well as posting a 19-7 record in postseason bowls (5-1 in BCS bowls) during that stretch.
Those were major bargaining chips for Slive when he closed out negotiations last summer on the most expansive and most lucrative college sports TV contract, which goes into effect with the beginning of football season this week.
