Tebow’s shoulder hurt in last season’s opener

GAINESVILLE – Tim Tebow said his back is fine.

But then again, he also said that about his shoulder last season.

Rumors circulated late last week that Florida’s senior quarterback had missed practice with an injury. UF coach Urban Meyer said Saturday morning that Tebow’s lower back was a bit sore, and Tebow was held out of live situations in practice the past couple of days because the coaching staff wanted to get backup quarterback John Brantley more reps.

Tebow echoed that on Monday.

“Felt good, ran around head-butting people, so I’m good to go,” Tebow said. ” … Coach really didn’t like me going in all those situations, too, just like he doesn’t like [Brandon] Spikes, Jeff Demps – they don’t go, either. I wouldn’t have gone anyway.”

Even if Tebow’s lower back is a bigger problem than anyone is revealing, Tebow has already proven that he can play through pain – and play well, too.

Tebow injured his right shoulder against Kentucky on Oct. 20, 2007, and he needed to have pain-killing injections for UF’s final six games of the season.
