OXFORD EAGLE – Discussions begin for $200M hospital facility in Oxford
Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. is proposing to build a $200 million hospital on 90 acres of land off Highway 7 South.
Representatives from BMHCC made the proposal to city and county officials this morning during an hour-long meeting behind closed doors.
Although neither hospital officials nor local leaders were ready to speak about the proposal after the meeting, a preliminary news release obtained by The Oxford EAGLE confirmed the meeting’s topic.
“We’re committed to continuing to provide high-quality health care to the Oxford community for years to come; that’s why we believe it’s important to relocate the Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi campus,” Jim Ainsworth, vice president and head of regional operations for Baptist said in the written statement.
Ainsworth also noted that “regional referral centers” have a larger campus than the 13 acres on which Baptist-North Mississippi now sits. Tupelo’s North Mississippi Medical Center sits on 110 acres, he said.
“If we hope to continue attracting top-notch physicians to Oxford, we must offer them a modern facility with advanced technology.”
