Harper Named to House Ethics Committee
The House Republican Conference today confirmed U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) to serve as the only freshman on the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct. Selected by Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio, this leadership appointment marks Harper’s fifth committee assignment for the 111th Congress.
“I’m truly humbled that my colleagues and the Republican Leadership have asked me to serve on this important committee,” Harper said. “Ranking Republican Member Jo Bonner has set high standards for the work of the Members, officers and employees of the U.S. House of Representatives and I am honored to serve with him in this capacity.”
Boehner added, “During his first six months of service in the House of Representatives, Congressman Harper has shown commitment to the values and ideals which I believe are imperative to the conduct of each Member. His genuine and fair approach to governing will serve as a great addition to this select committee.”
The Committee on Standards of Official Conduct is the only House panel with equal party representation, comprised of five Democratic and five Republican Members. Chaired by Democrat Zoe Lofgren of California, the oversight committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the Code of Official Conduct of Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and federal employees. All Members, Delegates, Resident Commissioners, officers, and employees of the U.S. House of Representatives are held accountable by the principles set within this code.
