Taxed Enough Already (TEA) Party coverage

Under the towering oaks of the DeSoto County courthouse lawn, hundreds of people chanted “No more taxes, no more taxes.”

The crowd was led by Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch, who told the 1,000 or so gathered that the country doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

Saturday’s Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party in Hernando was one of thousands that took place around the country.

Organizers say they are fed up with government at all levels for taxing too much, spending too much, and placing huge public debt burdens on the backs of future generations.

“Ladies and gentlemen, our forefathers would be upset right now with the direction our nation has gone and is going,” Flowers said. “With spending spiraling out of control, with taxation at the highest levels and going to go to the highest levels if we don’t do something about it, and issuing debt that will take decades upon decades upon decades for our children and grandchildren to pay back – it’s very disturbing.”

“No more taxes, we’re taxed enough,” he said. “We don’t have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem. Enough is enough. Quit spending, quit spending.”

Saturday’s rally was similar to the April 15 party held at the courthouse.
