U.S. Attorney: State’s Largest Meth Ring Dismantled
In a collaborative effort between local, state and federal law enforcement, 18 federal indictments were issued and 30 to 40 people were indicted on the local level. Nearly all were in custody on Tuesday, said Stan Harris, the acting U.S. attorney for the southern district.
The 18-month operation, called “Rankin Ice,” also collected 86 weapons and several stolen vehicles, officials said.
“They were capable of and did distribute at times up to 50 pounds of meth a month,” said Joel Reece, with the Drug Enforcement Agency. “This shows that we do have a significant meth problem here.”
The street value of the methamphetamines involved in the ring totaled $1.5 million, officials said.
“This is the biggest narcotics case I’ve ever been associated with,” Madison and Rankin counties District Attorney Michael Guest said.
