Jones, Marcy square off for Charles Young’s empty seat
As Wilbert Jones and Bill Marcy prepare for the June 30 Mississippi House District 82 run-off election, they are working to have their messages heard by as many people as they can.
Both candidates visited WMOX 1010 AM radio Wednesday morning to take questions from callers and staff. The candidates talked about a large number of issues including voter ID, medicaid, partisan politics.
Marcy revealed during the radio show that he and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour had planned his candidacy even before the death of long-time District 82 Rep. Charles Young left the seat open.
“As most of you know I was in the mayor’s race,” Marcy said, “I had bought signs and I was ready to roll. Somewhere along the line, the question about Mr. Young’s health came up. The word was that he was going to retire at the end of the session. And I was honored by the governor to call me and ask me if I would keep myself available for that position.
